‘Amelia Melinda Vaihu was named Dux of ‘Apifo’ou College for 2024, at the school’s end of the year prize-giving ceremony held today, 22 November, at Sir Sofele Kakala Hall, in Ma’ufanga, Tongatapu.

‘Amelia (17) topped the form 6 level in Mathematics, Accounting, Economics and Chemistry. She was awarded a trophy, $2000 and $1000 prizes and a $80 school supplies voucher.

Additional prizes awarded to 'Amelia included a $100 cash prize for her role as Deputy Head Girl, $800 cash prize for being the top student in Chemistry, and $1000 cash prize for being top student in Accounting and Economics.

‘Amelia hails from the island of Lofanga in Ha’apai, and from the villages of Kolovai, Longoteme, and Folaha Tongatapu.

Runner-up

The first runner-up, Toa Fema’eaki Fanua from Lofanga Ha’apai, and Houma Tongatapu, received a $900 cash prize. She was first in Religion Education and Computer Studies, second in Biology, and third in Chemistry.

The second runner-up ’Ofeina Mei Langi Prescott from Ha’afeva, Sopu, and Mataika Tongatapu received a $600 cash prize. She was first in English and Biology, and second in Physics.
