The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres will attend the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) leader's meeting in Tonga, from 26-30 August. The Prime Minister Hon. Hu'akavameiliku confirmed the Secretary-General's attendance.
Prime Minister, Hon. Hu‘akavameiliku extended an invitation to the Secretary General to participate in the Pacific Island Forum Leaders Meeting this year, during a bilateral meeting in New York, on 17 September, 2023.
Speaking to local media on Firday, 3 May, the PM said "Having high profiles coming, will attract more people because of the level of their visits."
Meanwhile, the Government is expecting at least 1,000 participants for the meeting. There are 18 members from across the Pacific Ocean, whose leaders, and important organizations will meet in Nuku'alofa.
The 53rd Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders Meetings theme is "Transformative Resilient Pasifiki; Build Better Now."
