Repatriation flight from Brisbane postponed

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

The repatriation flight from Brisbane, Australia scheduled to arrive in Tonga on 31 March, has been postponed due to the Brisbane area going on lockdown yesterday after new COVID-19 cases were confirmed.

To ensure that Tonga is safe and remains COVID free, the advice from the Ministry of Health is to postpone the arrival of the Brisbane flight to a later time, said MEIDECC CEO Paula Ma’u.

The repatriation flight from Auckland will still arrive as planned on Wednesday, 31 March, as well as the chartered flight from Fiji on 1 April, he said.

Tonga is one of the few countries in the world that is still COVID free.
