ADB $2m cyclone recovery aid for Fiji

A Fiji $2 million grant to help Fiji recover from the devastating impact of Cyclone Yasa was dispatched by the Asian Development Bank on 24 December.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa blew over Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second-largest island, the remote islands of the Yasawa, Lomaiviti and the Lau Group on 17-18 December, destroying villages, homes, government buildings, food crops and livestock. Four people lost their lives.

An ADB damage assessments indicated that about 93,000 people, 10% of the population were directly affected.

The ADB grant focused on the restoration of critical infrastructure and essential services, and the provision of food, shelter, water, sanitation, and hygiene kits.
