TC Yasa weakens to tropical low as it moves away from Tonga

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

The Fua'amotu Tropical Cyclone Warning Center was deactivated at 1:00pm today, as TC Yasa weakened and was downgraded into a tropical low as it moved further away from Tongatapu and 'Eua this morning.

Tonga's cyclone center was activated last week as TC Yasa rapidly intensified to a Category 5 system near Fiji.

Tonga Meterological Services reported at 1:00pm today that Yasa had weakened into a tropical low pressure system, and was moving South-southwest at 6 knots (12km/hr).

The system was located about 205km west of 'Ata or 365km southwest of Fua'amotu at noon today.

A gale warning remains in force for Tele-ki-Tonga, Tele-ki-Tokelau, Tongatapu and 'Eua  land areas and coastal waters. A heavy damaging swell warning remains in force for all of Tonga's coastal waters.

Tonga Met has finished its cyclone operations, and returned to normal routine operation.
