Tonga Met advised that based on information from USGS earthquake monitoring and TsuCAT there is no TSUNAMI threat to Tonga from this event.

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake was felt on Tongatapu at 2:05 pm today. Tonga Meteorological Service reported that the earthquake was located 88km Southeast of Nuku'alofa, at a depth of 83.9km.

Based on preliminary earthquake information, the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) is not activated.

Meanwhile, USGS reported the earthquake at M5.3, 34 km SW of 'Ohonua, 'Eua or 46.6km from Nuku'alofa.
