Congratulations to the Kaivai
Congratulations to the Kaivai team, their supportive spouses, relations and male friends who are behind this venture. The four issues you are going to concentrate on in your bimonthly Kaivai publication – Women and especially violence against women and children, Non Communicable Diseases, Tourism and Climate Change – are topical and important to the future of our beloved country.
The wonderful event that was your launch, made me reflect on the important and under rated role that the women of Tonga play in our lives. The women and mothers I know are teachers to their children, the main carers and counselors for members of the household especially to the elderly and their husbands. As the home managers, they shop, cook and ensure that meals are served on time and when needed. Often the first to get up in the morning and the last to bed (unless they have servants) most women are multiskilled, multitalented, hard-working and effortlessly switch from one role to another. Many women today perform all these roles before they go to work and after work. The men – well that’s another movie!
It is the women in our country that binds our families together, manages our homes, organizes most of the important national, community, church and family events. The performance of our Parliamentarians would be considerably enhanced and raised many notches if more of our capable, versatile, clever, innovative and far sighted women were included in the process. I hope you publication will contribute to making this a reality. I also wish the Kaivai team and your supporters a bright and prosperous future. I look forward to the Kaivao equivalent.
