Demo party: hungry for power
Demo party: hungry for power - Senolita Swan:
Reflecting on the 'vote of no confidence' debate, sadly, the members of the Demo Party come across as confused, manipulative, calculating and unprofessional. There is no explanation why they want a 'vote of no confidence'. We hear a lot of emotive phrases such as 'the people want to choose their PM' but not a lot about Sunia Fili spitting out his dummy because he did not have his own way - just like a baby. …
The fact is, under the leadership of PM Tu'ivakano, the 'feel-good factor' in the administration system and the economy is beginning to rise. The reforms carried out so far are moving in the right direction and this gives a positive platform for success for the Nation as a whole.
No one is talking about the fact the new political system in Tonga has only been running for 18 months. To change to a new political system, the King will have to commission another committee to study it again, and recommend another system, a lengthy process which will be dragging on for years.
What alarms me most about the Demo party action is that there is an element of 'hungry for power'. … The resignation of the three former ministers demonstrated that very clearly. According to information from another publication, the Demo party is split between a proposal for Dr Halapua to be the next PM with some favouring 'Akilisi Pohiva. But reading between the lines, there is a third person hovering at the background, Sunia Fili.
I would love to see the Constitution change to a more democratic format and I am dreaming of Tonga having leaders who are more like Nelson Mandela or Ghandi, calm and having genuine love for the people, not looking for self-promotion and what they can get out of the Tongan system but what they could give to the Tongan people. The only calm and collected person during this whole process is the Prime Minister Tu'ivakano who took the kicks from three of his ministers with professionalism and guts for the sake of the Nation. - Senolita Swan
