Remembering Tavake - Solomon
Remembering Tavake - Solomon Star Limited team in Honiara:
All of us here in Honiara who had the privilege to know Tavake Fusimalohi mourn with his family (Tavake Fusimalohi dies, Matangi Tonga, 3 December).
Tavake leaves a legacy across the region. For Tavake was not only a true and wonderful friend to all of us. He was also a shining light for news media development right across the Pacific Islands.
A driving force in the development of the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) and regional media cooperation. A leader in the development of professional standards; promotion and defence of media freedom; and fellowship amongst all in the media. Things many in the regional news media take for granted today are a result of Tavake’s tireless pioneering work. Those of us who were there in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s know and will never forget the immense role Tavake played. We will also remember his great generosity and goodness. His always unstinting warm hospitality in Nuku’alofa. His lasting true friendship.
May he rest in peace. May he never be forgotten. - John Lamani, Catherine Lamani, Nina Ratulele, Peter Lomas and all the Solomon Star Limited team in Honiara.
