Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Tonga’s Veitongo FC defeated the Vaiala Tonga team from American Samoa (13-0) today, 17 February, in a slippery soccer match at Teufaiva Stadium, after heavy rain. Tonga Football is hosting an Oceania Football Tournament, kicking off today, with teams from Samoa, American Samoa and Cook Islands taking part.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The Prime Minister, Hon. Hu’akavameiliku, arrived in Tonga this afternoon, 16 February, from New Zealand, after being away for almost three weeks. He has not resigned his defence portfolio after the King withdrew his confidence and consent to his appointment two weeks ago. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : A new “state-of-the-art” 2MWh Cummins Genset generator, commissioned at Tonga Power Ltd's power plant at Anana in Nuku'alofa, yesterday, 14 February, will help meet peak demand on Tongatapu. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : A senior reserve bank official, Tēvita Nonu Kolokihakaufisi (39), appeared together with his sister, ‘Ana Longolongo Kolokihakaufisi (37) at the Magistrate’s Court in Nuku'alofa, yesterday afternoon, Monday 12 February, on charges related to a haul of 15.657kg of methamphetamine seized by Police on the weekend. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Over 15kg of illicit drugs, allegedly methamphetamine, was seized by the Tonga Police drugs squad over the weekend in two raids on a house at Kolofo'ou and an office. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The PM and his Cabinet should remember the uniqueness of our kind of democracy. Ours is not like the British democracy where the King has no executive power. Ours is a democracy under Constitutional monarchy. The King has the ultimate executive authority over the Government. He can dissolve Parliament if it deems necessary as he has done with 'Akilisi's government back then. Our Constitution, and especially Clause 51 retains the King's authority over Cabinet by giving him authority to endorse ...the appointments of Cabinet ministers. So, it will be good for the current administration not to resist the authority of the King in this matter. - Rev Dr Ma'afu Palu
