Tonga's Minister of Education in parliament is calling for 'Akilisi Pohiva to apologise to the New Zealand Government, to herself and to the Tongan people for making misleading and unfounded allegations about the donor funding received by the Ministry of Education. From the House by Pesi Fonua.

HE Ms Tania Tupou, Tonga's first Resident Ambassador to Japan started in her new post at the Government of Tonga's new embassy located at Minato-ku in Tokyo, on October 1.

Tonga's Police Commissioner did not expect any more people would be charged in relation to the death of New Zealand Police Officer Kali Fungavaka in Tonga, but he did not rule out the possibility as the homicide investigation continues. He said the investigation had been done with integrity but that the police still had a long way to go in restoring public confidence.

Breast cancer ranks as one of the top 20 causes of death in Tonga and the rate is higher here than in the developed countries because women are leaving it too late to come forward for detection and treatment, speakers at the launch of "Pink October" for public awareness said this morning. I had the pleasure of knowing Taufa Talakai (63) from Tonga, over many years when she worked in and around San Francisco, CA. Taufa was such a wonderful caregiver and she became an important person to all in our family. People's Representative 'Akilisi Pohiva who is accused of swearing in the House on Wednesday, September 26, is now facing a possible suspension from parliament. From the House by Pesi Fonua.

Six male accused, including five Tongan police officers and one detainee, have each been charged with manslaughter at the Nuku'alofa Magistrate's Court this afternoon, and were expected to be released on bail later today, September 27. The three police officers who were arrested today included the supervising officer identified as Inspector Kelepi Hala'ufia, with the two police constables named as Manu Tu'ivai and Tevita Vakalahi.

At the Australia-Tonga Defence Cooperation Talks 2012, held today in Nuku'alofa, Australia reaffirmed its continued assistance to the Tonga Defence Services through a number of projects, activities and exercises planned for the next 12 months.
