Three floriculture nurseries sheltering thousands of flowering orchids and anthuriums, were officially opened by HM Queen Nanasipau'u this week at the MORDI base in Havelu, Tongatapu. The nurseries will help to elevate the floriculture industry in Tonga and in the region, providing livelihoods for rural women.

School children in Tonga will receive a gift of pencils containing seeds that can be planted after the pencil is used-up. The 10,000 pencils made from recycled paper and containing tomatoes, chilli and mustard seeds, were donated to school children in Tonga by Queen Nanasipau’u on 20 January.

King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u are leading a ‘Paletu’a Project’ to build a new neighbourhood near Matatoa for the resettlement of hundreds of Kanokupolu people whose homes were destroyed by the Hunga tsunamis in January. Newly released plans estimate the development will about $24 million pa'anga, to be raised from various sources, including donor funding. While Mango islanders' will be resettled to Ta'anga in 'Eua.
