Tongan Constable Uluaki Havea (Tonga Police) and his dog Cricket, were among nine teams graduating from the Pacific Detector Dog Programme, in Trentham, New Zealand, on November 24 and will bring their skills home to protect Tonga's borders. Their specialised training was facilitated under a partnership between New Zealand Police, New Zealand Customs Service and Pacific border and police agencies.

A 29-year-old man, who was found injured by the side of the road at Nualei on Sunday morning, has died. Tonga Police this evening, called for the public to come forward and report any information they may have regarding the matter.

An inquest in Neiafu today determined that a 46-year-old woman died from smoke inhalation and severe burning in a house fire at Neiafu yesterday. Her husband survived after the couple tried to escape the inferno by jumping from the rooftop of the multi storey building.

Two fishermen whose fibre boat suffered engine failure at sea were rescued by Tonga Police at Ha’aluma Beach in ‘Eua on Saturday, 15 October, a few hours after they failed to return home. The boat had no communications, no life jackets and beacon. Tonga Police urged the public and sea farers to make sure their boats are appropriately equipped with means of communication, life jackets, a beacon and enough food supplies.

Tonga Police are working to identify the body of a man that was found floating in Vaipua Harbour, Vava’u, on 11 October.

A Tongan who was befriended by an overseas scammer online, reported the matter to Tonga Police after the scammer directed the victim to send money. Tonga Police today urged the public to be more cautious when interacting online.
