A tornado struck the centre of the village of Ha'alalo in central Tongatapu on Saturday, August 21, blowing off the roof of the village hall, destroying a home with a family inside, hitting a primary school, knocking out the local kava club house, and damaging trees.

Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Baton Relay literally touched the hearts of dozens of Tongan school children during the two days that they carried it through the villages of the island of Tongatapu attracting thousands of excited spectators. The swinging sixties came to life with the visiting Tuggerah Lakes Show Band from Australia, at the ‘Apifo’ou College Hall in, Nuku‘alofa, on June 14. Austin Powers look-alike, Paul Boden, and his bird, Kate Cosgrove, won two bottles of wine and t-shirts for the best dressed couple from the ‘60s era.
