The inaugural meeting of the Tonga Heritage Society last night chose foundation officers who will move to formally register the group as an incorporated society. The group came together following public concern over the loss of heritage areas to development activity in Tonga.

Tongatapu’s two-day Royal Agricultural, Fisheries and Industrial Show 2015 was opened today by King Tupou VI on a bright sunny day with a large variety of stalls showcasing plentiful supply of local food crops, vegetables, fruits and seafood along with traditional weaving, handicrafts and manufactured goods at the Funga-Mana-Mo’ui Grounds in ‘Atele.

Dr. William R. Dickinson (83), a major scholar in plate tectonics and Pacific archaeology, died in Nuku‘alofa, Tonga, on July 21, 2015. His burial is expected to be on Sunday in Nukuleka - a village with which he had close connections in his geological research into the origins of the first Tongan settlements.
