Heneli Manuofetoa (42) was sentenced to two-years imprisonment for charges, including possession of 0.78 grams of methamphetamine seized inside his vehicle, after Police received information that he was selling illicit drugs in Nuku’alofa.

Aiyaz Mohammed Musa Umarji owned a chain of pharmacies, in three Pacific countries, held influential roles, and made generous donations to political parties. He’s now in prison for drug importing but a joint investigation by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project and local media, released today, has found a far murkier story. ‘Uhila Tu’i (33), who is currently serving a prison term for firearm offences, was further sentenced to four and a half-years imprisonment for drug charges that included possession of 33.97 grams of methamphetamine seized in his van at Hala’ovave.

Folauola Kamoto was sentenced to 34-months imprisonment with the final-18-months suspended on conditions for various drug offences that included possession of 2.35 grams of methamphetamine. Her husband Koloa Kamoto was sentenced to 12-months imprisonment.

A repeat drug offender, Paula Keni Moala (53) was jailed for over seven years for possession of 28.66 grams of methamphetamine and 3.81 grams of cannabis seized by Police, who received information that he was driving around selling illicit drugs in the Nuku’alofa area. The time includes a previous suspended jail sentence that was activated.

Nelson Siulangapo (35) who pleaded guilty to five different charges, including possession of the illicit drugs methamphetamine and cannabis, drugs utensils, an unlicensed .22 rifle and unlicensed ammunition, was convicted and sentenced to five years and three months imprisonment.

Four people were arrested in two separate illicit drug raids at Hofoa and Tokomolo, which included the seizure of 13.27 grams of methamphetamine. 

Three people have been arrested in two separate drugs busts that seized methamphetamine and cannabis on Tongatapu this week.

Kaufana Maile (36) was sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment for possession of illicit drugs including 2.12 grams of methamphetamine at a home in Hala’ovave, in 2022.
