The President of Fiji, HE Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and the Special Representative to the United Nations Secretary General on Violence against Children, Ms Marta Santos Pais, sent a strong and unified message at the start of a three-day conference on ending violence against children today, saying “Violence against children is not inevitable, it can be prevented.”

An increasing number of Tonga's youth are found to have diabetes, a disease that is incurable, and many of them have contracted diabetes because they eat the wrong foods. A Tonga Youth Diabetes Study Report 2013, released last week recommends a national screening of youths for the disease along with a national awareness campaign.

A team of six young Tongan performers are travelling to New Caledonia today to showcase their creation, a full-length theatre production titled “Kuonga”.

A new leadership program to assist and train promising young women in implementing community projects is in need of more applicants.

The Fofo'anga Lapaha singing group won over $3,000 and the Kulupu Kau "Angelo from Hu'atolitoli won over $2000 in cash prizes, presented by Prince Ata in the first Musika Mo'onia singing competition held on Saturday 1 December in central Nuku'alofa.
