A donation of 200 solar home lighting units received by the Tonga Red Cross Society will be distributed to families affected by the 2022 HTHH volcanic eruption and tsunamis, with priority to the outer islands of Ha'apai. The donation which includes livelihood materials, is from the Government of India's Pacific Island Regional Initiative. 

Fifteen participants from the Tonga Red Cross Society received their recognition as Pacific First Aid Instructors, after completing a training course from 10-18 October in Nuku'alofa.

Tonga Red Cross received a donation of $10,000 pa’anga from the Bank South Pacific to assist in its recovery programs, after the natural disasters of 15 January. BSP Tonga-Country Head Marcellina Wolfgramm Ha'apai presented the cheque to Tonga Red Cross Secretary-General, Sione Taumoefolau on 11 July to mark the bank's 7th anniversary in Tonga.

Drinking water and food packages amounting to $55,000 pa'anga was donated by MBF Bank to assist those affected by last month's volcanic eruption and tsunami. The supplies will be distributed to the outer islands of Ha'apai, 'Atata and 'Eueiki by Tonga Red Cross.

World Red Cross Day celebrations in Tonga on 8 May saw the launch of a website used to restore communications within families in times of emergencies, including natural disasters, conflicts or migration.

A small tornado ('ahiohio) shocked Ha’ateiho residents this morning, 30 December, as it appeared suddenly from the lagoon area and roared through the central Tongatapu village leaving a trail of damaged homes.

Thirty-five water tanks have been installed on the small island of ‘Atata located just off Tongatapu, helping around 200 people access a clean water supply on the island that has encountered water problems in recent years.
