Prolific thief, Penisimani Tupa's application for leave to appeal against his six-years nine-months sentence was denied by the Lord Chief Justice, at the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court, who noted the applicant's “appalling criminal history”, and that the applicant had learned nothing and therefore could not expect further leniency.

Lolina ‘Ofa (24) was sentenced to 15-months imprisonment for numerous counts of forgery and theft of $18,189 pa’anga from a family business. The sentence was fully suspended, at the Nuku'alofa Surpeme Court. "I believe the defendant had mistakenly believed that this idea of taking whatever you want from your fa'etangata would be applicable in her case, but unfortunately the complainant did not share her logic," said the judge.

Tevita Valikoula (57) was sentenced today to five-years three-months imprisonment for receiving stolen Tongan properties valued at $19,400 pa’anga and encouraging another to steal $17,000 worth of kava plants. The judge said it was despicable the offender had exploited another man to his own advantage.

‘Anisi Kulufeinga Bloomfield, a former CEO of the Ministry of Revenue and Customs is to be extradited to Fiji, where he is to be tried for offences of theft and dishonesty allegedly committed between 2011-14. A warrant for his arrest was issued in the Magistrate's Court of Fiji on 27 March 2018.

Maikolo ‘Ealelei (20), a habitual thief, was sentenced to four years imprisonment for serious housebreaking when he stole around $34,000 pa’anga worth of items at a home in Tofoa last year. “It is a distressingly common offence committed in the main by young men. It is a very serious problem in Tonga to which there must be a strong response,” the Chief Justice stated.

A 26-year-old solo-mother, Loleini ‘Ala, who pleaded guilty to stealing $14,375 pa’anga from her employer in a staged robbery, was discharged without conviction by the Tonga Supreme Court on Wednesday 7 November. The accused’s employer was sympathetic and had asked Police to withdraw the charges.
