Tonga finally got all its athletes to the Pacific Games 2015 in Papua New Guinea today, when the remaining 35 who were stranded in Nandi since Saturday, 11 July secured seats on a flight to Port Moresby this morning.

Fifty nine Tongan athletes who were left behind at the airport on Tuesday, will depart Tonga tomorrow morning on a charter flight to Nadi, hoping to get connecting flights for Papua New Guinea in time to participate in the Pacific Games 2015. Only 19 have seats on connecting flights.

Torrential rain over Tongatapu did not dampen the spirit of the Glasgow 2014 Queen's Baton Relay on its second day in Tongatapu today, and Prince Tungi received the Queen's Baton, at the Palace Office after its rotation through villages and the capital supported by cheerful throngs of sporting clubs. The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Mr Jacques Rogge, and his wife, Anne, will visit Tonga from October 25-27, 2011, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Tonga Amateur Sports Association. Tonga remains the only Pacific Island to have won a medal at the Olympic Games, a Silver Medal in boxing, at the Atlanta Olympic 1996 by Paea Wolfgramm, in the Super-heavy weight division. In 1984 TASANOC became a member of the International Olympic Committee.
