Sunia Mailau who is serving a prison sentence of nine-years nine-months for brutal offences, that included serious indecent assaults of his own daughter, had his appeal dismissed by the Tonga Court of Appeal, who agreed with the trial judge that the victim was subjected to a terrifying and traumatising period of abuse.

An "authoritative and dominating" father of five, Sunia Mailau (45), was convicted of committing incest, rape, assault and indecent acts against his teenage daughter. He was sentenced following trial, to over 9 years’ imprisonment by Judge C.B. Cato of the Tonga Supreme Court on 17 December.
