Tonga’s 13th and final military contingent deployed to the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) returned to Tonga on Monday, July 29. RAMSI marked its 10th year anniversary last week in Honiara ending the military component of the mission from Participating Forces.

The Tonga Police 11th Contingent of five Senior Police Constables deployed to the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) returned home on 4 December, after completing a one-year mission that included protecting the Solomon Islands Prime Minister and assisting local police.

Solomon Islands was one of the countries that voted with Japan on the pro-whaling debate which won a majority vote over the last couple of days. Sadly, again, the Minister of Fisheries for Solomon Islands, Mr. Nollen Leni went against his government and cabinet's decision to abstain from voting, disobeying a cabinet directive and he is yet to face the consequences when he comes back here in a few days time. - M.
