Two male teenagers were sentenced to seven and eight-years imprisonment each for violently raping a woman who lived alone, in a deterrent sentence by a Supreme Court judge who said this is to protect women against predatory sexual home invasions. The perpetrators were involved in drugs and alcohol.

Sami Likiliki Fisilau (52) was sentenced to two and a half-years imprisonment after pleading guilty to serious bodily harm and domestic violence committed on his 44-year-old wife in Vaini last year. “Domestic issues are no justification or excuse for violence and domestic abuse will be met with firm penalties," Mr Justice Cato told him.

Six Georgian nationals who pleaded guilty to knowingly dealing with forged documents, after entering Tonga on stolen Greek passports, were each given two-years suspended prison sentences, and ordered to pay $1,000 pa'anga each to the Supreme Court today. They are ordered to leave Tonga within two weeks, ordered a Supreme Court judge in Nuku'alofa.
