Power cuts affecting areas across Tongatapu are expected to continue this week while Tonga Power's third generator is undergoing maintenance. Recent overnight outages were caused by three generators failing between 19-22 April. Tonight, 28 April, the areas of Tokomololo to Kalaʻau; Maui to Haʻatafu; and Queen Salote College to Tofoa (Stand by) will be affected.

Widespread blackouts affecting Tongatapu this week were due to a technical issue within the system that automates power generation coming from different sources such as wind, solar, and diesel. Tonga Power Ltd. said while they are working to resolve the issues: "Tonga Power does not guarantee that there will be no more further power outages during this resolution period."
