Tonga Power Limited in a collaboration with Northpower, a leading electricity network distribution company based in New Zealand, will conduct a significant improvement to Tonga’s electricity network infrastructure, costing around $3.8 million pa'anga by the end of the year, TPL announced yesterday.

Widespread blackouts affecting Tongatapu this week were due to a technical issue within the system that automates power generation coming from different sources such as wind, solar, and diesel. Tonga Power Ltd. said while they are working to resolve the issues: "Tonga Power does not guarantee that there will be no more further power outages during this resolution period."
