A farewell Mass for John Paul II was held this evening, Sunday April 10, at St Mary...s Cathedral, Ma'ufanga led by Bishop Soane Lilo Foliaki of Tonga, and attended by King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV and Queen Halaevalu Mata'aho, the Crown Prince Tupouto'a and the Prime Minister, Prince 'Ulukalala Lavaka Ata.

The 16,000 Catholics throughout Tonga began nine days of mourning on the death of Pope John Paul II in Rome on April 3, and they have invited King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV to join them for the funeral mass later this week.
