Will Tonga’s flag be flying at the Rio Olympic Games in August, and will the Pacific Games happen? At the moment there is no definite answer, because TASANOC has not been able to resolve on-going internal conflicts and has failed to provide outstanding annual and financial reports that have been demanded by the International Olympic Committee.

Port Vila, Vanuatu
The number of sports allowed at future Pacific Games has now been reduced from 26 to 24, with the decision made after a Pacific Games Council General Assembly meeting yesterday in Port Vila, Vanuatu. The number of compulsory sports has increased from 14 to 16, with sailing and triathlon being promoted.

Tongan athletes may still compete in the Rio De Janeiro Olympic, even if Tonga is suspended from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Dr Robin Mitchell, President of the Oceania National Olympic Committees said yesterday, 5 February in Nuku’alofa. The Tongan athletes would, however, be parading under the IOC flag and not under the Tongan flag.
