Kiva Kaufusi was granted a fresh Deed of Grant to his town allotment in 'Utungake, Vava’u, after a judge found that it was the Minister of Land’s mistake when he granted the land area in dispute, to his neighbour. The judge stated that this case amongst others unfortunately revealed how a simple application can create extreme consequences for all involved.

“There can be only one widow”, ruled the Tonga Land Court, when ordering that Vaiosina Kupu be registered as the lawful holder of a town and tax allotment in Ha‘atafu. The land belonging to her late husband, had been granted by the Minister of Lands to another woman who also claimed to be the widow.

The Land Court of Tonga this morning declared Tupou Tongaliuaki Filo'aulo Aleamotu'a (24) as the lawful holder of the hereditary title Fielakepa, and that his uncle's appointment as a trustee of the Fielakepa estate was null and void, and also that the publication in the Gazette of the defendant's name as holder of the title Fielakepa was made in error.
