Tonga and China will celebrate the 15th anniversary of their diplomatic relations on November 2, while looking forward to continuing development assistance along with opportunities for Chinese enterprises to invest in Tonga. China has also expressed an interest in closer coordination and cooperation with Tonga in international and regional affairs, according to a statement from the Chinese Ambassador to Tonga, HE Mr Wang Donghua.

China's first Film Festival in Tongatapu this week marks the 15th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tonga and China. The festival opened on April 5 with a special screening of a Chinese Film, attended by Queen Nanasipau'u at the Fa'onelua Convention Centre.

HM King Tupou VI unveiled a plaque and cut a ribbon to open a new Vuna Wharf, reconstructed with a $32 million pa'anga loan from China, in time to welcome its first cruise ship, the Ocean Princess tomorrow Tuesday 11 December. The new wharf is expected to help drive the economy by attracting more cruise ships to Nuku'alofa.
