Tonga's Supreme Court will consider forfeiture to the Crown of an 'Eua passenger ferry that carried an excessive number of passengers in dangerous waters at night in January last year, after the Master was found guilty yesterday of permitting the MV 'Onemato to sail carrying excess passengers.

In an unanimous verdict this afternoon, a jury found ‘Atonio Moeaki (40) guilty of murdering Dr Sione Feo Lau’i (23). He was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Supreme Court judge.

A stepfather was found guilty by a Supreme Court judge, on numerous counts that included serious indecent assault of his two young step-daughters and raping one of them, while the mother was found guilty of helping him commit several of these serious sexual offences, which took place last year in Tongatapu. Name suppression was ordered by the judge to protect the identity of the victims.
