A six-day training program on building different types of fale Tonga (Tonga house) for cyclone preparedness was completed after 25 people, including 11 women, were awarded certificates at the Free Constitution Church of Tonga in Pahu today. By Eleanor Gee.

A trust fund to boost climate change and disaster resilience in Small Island States (SIDS) was established by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Ireland on the opening day of the 52nd Annual Meeting of ADB’s Board of Governors on May 1, in Nadi, Fiji.

Tonga, Samoa and Tuvalu will be able to access $15 million to strengthen resilience to disasters after the Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced on 18 December it would provide policy-based loans and grants under its Pacific Disaster Resilience Program.

A US$7.5 million Regional Disaster Resilience project, under a partnership between Russia and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) was launched on 17 October in Nadi. The Regional Disaster Resilience in the Pacific Small Island Developing States (RESPAC) Project will cover 14 countries including Tonga.
