Fatafehi Tomasi’s appeal against his sentence was dismissed by the Appeal Court. He is currently serving 10 months in prison for driving a motor vehicle causing bodily harm to his passenger, while under the influence of alcohol, more than four times over the legal limit.

Liuaki Fainu (23) who was sentenced to two-years six-months imprisonment, for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm to a police officer in Vava’u had his sentence fully suspended on conditions. The officer who suffered a broken leg, in December 2022, awaits bone reconstruction experts from Australia next month who will operate to re-connect his fractured femur.

Halavavae Sosaia Tameifuna was convicted at the Supreme Court for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm to a 36-year-man on Vaha'akolo Road, by intentionally swerving his car to hit the victim, who did not see the car coming. The judge found it was premeditated causing of serious injury.
