Ha’apai has 18 positive COVID-19 cases in the community, recorded on Saturday, April 2, the Minister for Health, Hon. Dr Saia Piukala said today. To date nationally, nine people have died due to COVID-19 and another seven from co-morbidities. Some active cases in Tonga remain “moderately severe”. Public Health nurses are going out to reach around 20,000 people who have not yet had their vaccine booster shots. By Eleanor Gee.

All schools and government departments in Ha‘apai are closed, starting today, after the first community transmission of COVID-19 was detected there, the Prime Minister's Office announced last night. The PMO expected the numbers to be announced by the Ministry of Health at a press conference this afternoon.
