The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints has temporarily suspended all public gatherings worldwide, until further notice, as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Area Seventy-Pacific Area Elder 'Inoke Fotu Kupu stated on March 17 that this was why Members are having Sunday worship in their homes.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in program on Family Values presented the first Family Values Awards to three model Tongan families on September 2 at Liahona High School, Tongatapu. The awards were presented to Dr Viliami Puloka and his wife Dr 'Aivi Puloka; the President of the Free Church of Tonga, Rev. Semisi Fonua and family; and Dr Viliami Tangi and family.
