Two hundred homes on 'Eua and Tongatapu have been repaired in a Manaaki Shelter Resilience project funded by the New Zealand Government. The NZD$2.1million project over two years was led by Caritas Tonga in partnership with Habitat for Humanity New Zealand.

Safe drinking water will be easier to access for around 4,000 people in six villages across western and eastern Tongatapu thanks to the New Zealand Government committing NZ$51,000 to Caritas Tonga to restore water supply catchments. Works include renovating and rehabilitating decrepit rainwater tanks and installing new water refill stations.

Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand has pledged NZD$40,000 to support Caritas Tonga’s response to Tropical Cyclone Ian. Caritas Tonga has expertise in providing psychosocial support following a disaster, and Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand will support this again if the need is identified, stated its director, Julianne Hickey.
