Results for athletics

The 96th Inter-Collegiate Athletics Competition started on 24 April at the Teufaiva Stadium.

Tongan athletes from nine sporting disciplines will begin training in China next month as part of a new aid project called the "China Aid Project on Sports Technical Assistance to Tonga-2018”. The training initiative for about 100 athletes and coaches occurs at a crucial point – just eight months before the 2019 Pacific Games are scheduled to begin in Samoa on 7 July, 2019.

The official medal tally for Tonga's 93rd Inter-Collegiate Athletics Competition 2017 was held back on Friday for final approval by an official sports committee, to be released to the public some time next week.

Tonga has won six medals including three gold medals won by winning sprinter Tomasi Ma’asi at the Special Olympics 2013, Asia Pacific Games, that ended in Newcastle, Australia today.

The three athletes who are representing Tonga in the 2008 Beijing Olympics have completed their competitions this week and will return to Tonga on August 28. 'Ana Po'uhila, a shot put thrower, 'Aisea Tohi, an athlete and Maamaloa Lolohea, a weight lifter.

High schools and colleges in Tongatapu have held their sports days over the last two weeks to choose their best athletes for the upcoming Inter College Sports to be held on March 31 -April 2. The hot summer days with temperatures around 30 celcius did not dampen the enthusiasm of the competitors or their supporters.
