The Prime Minister Hon ‘Akilisi Pohiva has been given time to file an appeal against the grounds on which a Magistrate’s order was made in awarding costs against him, after he took unsuccessful private prosecutions against Princess Pilolevu Tuita and others last year.

A former Minister of Justice, Clive Edwards, who was awarded $14,500 in damages and costs by a Magistrate in a 2011 defamation case against the Kele'a newspaper and its editors, has filed a written submission to the court seeking to review an appeal against the award and submitting that Mateni Tapuelueulu's position as a parliamentarian is questionable because the defamation award had not been paid before the election.

An appeal by a Tongatapu People's Representative, ‘Akilisi Pohiva, against a ruling by a Nuku'alofa Magistrate to dismiss a case he brought against the Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano and three others will be heard on November 27, at the Supreme Court in Nuku'alofa.
