Tonga's Appeal Court has dismissed an appeal by Paula Piveni Piukala and another, on the dismissal of their application for judicial review against a decision by the Supervisor of Elections, in regards to Lord Nuku’s election as a Noble's Represenatative. However, clause 65 of the constitution is concerned only with the qualification of Representatives of the People and does not apply to Nobles’ Representatives.

The first session of Tonga's Court of Appeal 2023 is being held this week with judgments expected to be delivered next week, before the Easter long weekend. A new Appeal Judge, Hon. Justice Philip Morrison joins this session.

Six new judges have been appointed to Tonga's Court of Appeal. The increase is to ensure availability for each session.

Tonga's Court of Appeal Court is expected to issue judgments later in the week, after concluding its first session held from May 16-20. 'Etuate Lavulavu's appeal was deferred to the next session later in the year.

The second session of Tonga's Court of Appeal for this year concluded today, September 23. Judgements on 11 cases including land, criminal and civil appeals, will be delivered in due course.

An appeal by Lord Tu’ivakano against his conviction by a jury, will be heard on September 22 by Tonga’s Appeal Court in Nuku’alofa.

Tonga's Court of Appeal has granted former Attorney General John Cauchi leave for a judicial review and directed a Judicial Appointments and Discipline Panel to consider his complaints.
