Tonga Police arrested a 35-year-old male suspect on 4 January 2025 with a pistol handgun and a pack of cannabis after responding to an urgent call regarding the possession of a firearm.
A victim employed at the Emerald Restaurant in Vuna Road, Nuku'alofa, on Saturday last week, called the police regarding a firearm incident.
The victim, a male from Sopu reported a distressing encounter with the suspect where he was held on gunpoint.
“According to the victim, the suspect brought up a firearm and pointed at the victim’s forehead while speaking incoherently in English.”
“Tonga Police responded to the call shortly thereafter and the suspect was arrested on Hihifo Road at Hala’ovave with a handgun pistol firearm, along with 1 pack of cannabis weighing 0.92mg.”
Tonga Police urged the public to report any criminal activities to ensure a safe and protected environment.
