The Tonga Red Cross Society (TRCS) and Ministry of Health will host a blood drive at the Digicel Square in Nuku'alofa CBD, tomorrow, Friday, at 10.00am to mark World Blood Donor Day and encourage voluntary donation of blood.

The World Blood Donors Day is marked on 14 June annually, to serve as a global platform to express gratitude and recognition to the millions of voluntary blood donors worldwide.

"This year we will be celebrating and acknowledging the selfless volunteers who donate blood to save a life," TRCS stated.

TRCS has been conducting programs thoughtout this week to honor donors who give blood, and saving lives and improving communities, and to discuss what’s working and what needs improvement in Tonga's blood programs, sharing lessons for better donation efforts.

Meanwhile, TRCS also stressed the ongoing need for regular, unpaid blood donations (Voluntary Blood Donor) to ensure everyone can access safe transfusions.

"Let’s build a culture of giving blood regularly, especially among young people, fostering a sense of responsibility and kindness."

"We want a diverse group of donors to join us, ensuring a reliable blood supply for everyone who needs it."
