Vava'u airport upgrade for international flights

The upgrade to Lupepau'u Airport for proposed international direct flights to Vava'u has begun with the installation of a security x-ray machine while discussion is underway on who will provide that service.

It's long overdue and the
It's long overdue and the tourism sector should be grateful. The Nadi connection will make Vava'u more accessible, cheaper and a unique add-on for the thousands of visitors to Fiji. If this government can cherry-pick on key projects like this, which has long been obvious but have been parked for no obvious reasons, they will put some early runs on the board and build a decent innings over the next three years. But the tourism sector will need to move up a gear or two in preparation for the inevitable influx. The body scanner is now standard equipment at every airport and am curious as to why it is given prominence here. - Sefita Hao'uli, Auckland, New Zealand.
