The Kingdom of Tonga has received financing from the World Bank for an exciting project, the Pathway to Sustainable Oceans Project (Tongafish Pathway) to support sustainable management of the local fisheries sector. The Ministry of Fisheries’ Science and Aquaculture Section is responsible for all matters related to the development of aquaculture in Tonga.
The Tongafish Pathway Project is financing, amongst other, two important actions for aquaculture development in Tonga:
- The design for upgrading of the Sopu mariculture center
- The renovation and total refurbishment of the Sopu mariculture center
As a result, the Ministry of Fisheries is seeking an Aquaculture Specialist with construction background to take part in and oversee the renovation and refurbishment work along with assisting the team at MoF with routine production, development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), development of biosecurity guidelines, amongst other tasks.
The overall goal is to provide support to the ongoing development of aquaculture in Tonga, assist in the implementation of technical practice of ongoing aquaculture activities, such as aquaculture farming, hatchery production, and support the growing potential for aquaculture along with identifying and addressing the limitations and constraints to aquaculture in Tonga.
The position will work against an activity deliverable schedule for the assignment up to 12 months.

- A cover letter indicating your interest in this assignment;
- Curriculum Vitae to demonstrate that you meet the minimum requirements with three (3) referees and their contact details; and
- Statement addressing the selection criteria in the Terms of Reference.

The attention of interested Consultants is drawn to paragraphs 3.14, 3.16, and 3.17 of the World Bank’s Procurement Regulations for IPF Borrowers, Fourth Edition, November 2020 (“the Regulations”) (link here), setting forth the World Bank’s policy on conflict of interest.
