One of the detainees who escaped from Police custody was successfully apprehended today, 20 July 2026. The teenaged Tongan national is now back in Police custody.
Police are continuing efforts to locate the remaining two escapees, a New Zealand national and a Fijian national. Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts is urged to call 922 immediately or contact the Police Station nearest to their location.
Earlier today:
Tonga Police issued a public warning regarding three escaped prisoners who are described as "dangerous".
The escapees were named as Liuaki Fungalei Kokohu Vi (35), a New Zealand national, Adam Zabid Hussein (34), a Fijian national, and Angelico Fa'aoa (16), a Tongan national.
Police warned that Liuaki Fungalei Kokohu Vi is the highest-risk escapee due to his criminal history and the serious offences associated with him.
"Members of the public are urged not to approach the escapees if they are seen. Instead, immediately contact 922 or your nearest police station with any information regarding their whereabouts."
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact Tonga Police immediately at 922.
Tonga Police also remind the public that it is a criminal offence to knowingly assist, harbour, conceal, or provide any form of aid to escaped prisoners.
