The Peace Corps Tonga welcomed 14 new trainees with a traditional Tongan ‘Ouau Kava (Kava Ceremony) in Tongatapu today, 20 June 2025.
The 87th cohort of Peace Corps volunteers in Tonga will continue to provide their services in the areas of English Language Development and Environment Adaptation and Resilience.
This new group will undergo a procedural training for three months before serving in their assigned locations of service, including primary and secondary schools and various communities, alongside district and town officers to build climate resilient communities.
The training will help the new cohort of trainees adapt to Tongga through learning the language, the people’s traditions, basic laws and culture.
Since 1967, the Peace Corps has sent 1773 volunteers to serve in Tonga.
