The OFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers kicks off at the Loto Tonga Soka Centre in Veitongo, tomorrow, 7 March 2025.
Tonga's Junior Mataliki captain, 17-year-old Tama’a Faletau, said that it’s going to be a difficult game against Solomon Islands tomorrow but she’s confident Tonga will come out winners.
“Solomon Islands’ team is very strong and their ball play is excellent but if we use all the training and skills we were taught, we’ll win.”
Tama’a is confident in her team and the bond they share, after spending several months training together for this competition.
“We’ve been training for four months for this and our bond as a team is good. I’m confident that through team work we’ll win tomorrow” she said.
As Tonga’s first opponents on the field tomorrow, Solomon Islands look forward to securing their first win.
Although Solomon Island’s team have only been training together for a month, most of the players are familiar with each other for years now.
Captain Eileen Lovelyn said that she not only looks forward to playing against Tonga tomorrow but to secure their first win.
Tonga and Solomon Islands will open the tournament with the first game tomorrow. Solomon Islands will then take on American Samoa on Monday while Tonga faces of American Samoa again, on Thursday 13 March.
The winner of the qualifying stage will secure a spot in the main tournament, set to take place in Tahiti later this year on September.
