A heavy rain warning and flash flood advisory are inforce for Tongatapu, Vava'u, Ha'apai, and 'Eua, the Fua’amotu Weather Forecasting Centre advised this morning, Wednesday 17 January.

"An active trough lies and slow moving over all of Tonga this morning.”

Associated clouds with occasional rain will continue to affect the group today, until this Friday.

The forecast to midnight tonight for Tongatapu, Vava'u, Ha'apai, and 'Eua, is cloudy and overcast with occasional rain, heavy at times with isolated thunderstorms, especially this evening and tonight.

Meanwhile, with light to moderate east to north-easterly winds, fresh at times.

Flooding is possible in low lying areas due to heavy rain.

For the Niuas, the forecast is cloudy and overcast at times with occasional showers, heavy at times, with light to moderate east to northeasterly winds.

The weather outlook for tomorrow, 18 January, for Tongatapu, Vava'u, Ha'apai, and 'Eua, is cloudy and overcast with occasional rain, heavy at times with isolated thunderstorms, with moderate to fresh north to northeasterly winds.

For the Niuas, cloudy and overcast at times with occasional showers, heavy at times, with light to moderate north to northeasterly winds.
