Two new fire trucks and equipment were handed over to Tonga Fire & Emergency Services (TFES) on behalf of the Southern Australia Metropolitan Fire Service Adelaide, recently.

Australia's Acting High Commissioner, Erin Gleeson handed over the fire trucks to TFES Commissioner Viliami Tu'ihalamaka in the presence of the TFES team.

Swire Shipping for facilitated the delivery of the fire trucks.

One of the fire trucks will be used to service the southern part of Tongatapu, and the other will be based at the Nuku’alofa station.

The trucks will not only assist in fighting fires but will also improve cyclone response efforts.

Tonga Fire and Emergency Services and South Australia have been strong partners since 2004, when the first fire truck was sent to Tonga. Since then, there have been many exchanges and training opportunities shared, and most of Tonga’s fleet of fire trucks have been donated by South Australia.
