Skilling youths for employability in Tonga

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Tonga Women in ICT (TWICT) is pleased to announce a new partnership with The Commonwealth of Learning (COL ) aimed at fostering sustainable development through skills development for youths in Tonga. This collaboration will focus on promoting learning opportunities with an emphasis on open, distance, and flexible learning.

TWICT is a Tonga-based local non-profit organization dedicated to promoting gender equality and digital inclusion. With years of experience in the field, TWICT is well-equipped to contribute significantly to the success of this initiative. COL was founded by Commonwealth Heads of Government and is headquartered in Canada with a regional center at the University of the South Pacific. The Honorable Hu’akavameiliku of Ha’asini, Prime Minister of Tonga, serves on the Board of Governors of COL.

The primary objective of this partnership is to empower youths in Tonga, especially young women and youths with disabilities, by providing them with equitable access to quality training and learning opportunities. COL and TWICT will work together to provide various skills training including digital literacy, digital marketing, and leadership that can benefit Tonga as a whole. In a span of 6 months, this collaboration will train more than 300 youths which could lead to employment and entrepreneurship. This collaboration hopes to strengthen also within the region.

This initiative is being offered as part of the Partnership for ODFL in the Pacific Project, supported by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. To learn more about it, please check out our website or Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083222176057
