Tropical Depression develops into Cat 1 Cyclone Cody

Tropical Cyclone Cody (Cat.1) that developed from Tropical Depression TD03F this morning near Fiji, however, is not likely to pose a direct threat to Tonga island groups on its current track, Tonga Tonga Meteorological Services forecast today.

The cyclone was located around 285km southwest of Nadi, Fiji, and around 840km west of Nuku’alofa, at 7:00am.

TC Cody has average winds of 35 – 40 knots (70-80km/hr) near its centre and is moving west southwest at a speed of 7 knots (14km/hr).

The forecast track shows TC Cody reaching sputhern Tonga waters (Tele-ki-Tokelau and Tele-ki-Tonga) on Thursday, January 13.

The next forecast for Tonga will be issued at later tonight.
