Tropical Cyclone Ana downgraded to low pressure system

Tropical Cyclone Ana has weakened and was downgraded into a Tropical Low Pressure System by Tonga Meteorological Services at 2pm today, Tuesday. The cyclone has buffeted Tongatapu with gales and stormy seas overnight and this morning.

At 1:30pm. the system was located 390km Southwest of Nuku'alofa and 'Eua, 560km Southwest of Pangai Ha'apai, 685km Southwest of Neiafu, Vava'u

The system is now moving Southeast at about 15 knots (30km/hr) further away from the group. On its current track, the system is expected to lie at about 430km Southwest of Nuku'alofa and 420km Southwest 'Eua at 7:00pm Tuesday evening.

Tonga Met forecasts associated strong to gale force winds, cloudy conditions with periods of occasional rain will continue to affect Tonga.

A heavy damaging swell and small craft advisory remains in force for all of Tonga coastal waters.

TELE-KI-TONGA AND TELE-KI-TOKELAU COASTAL WATERS:

South to Southeast winds 30-35 knots (60-70 km/hr) with momentary gusts up to 45knots (90km/hr) at times. Very rough to high seas (up to 6-9 meters). A heavy damaging Northwesterly swell (up to 4-6 meters).

HA'APAI, TONGATAPU AND 'EUA:

North to Northwest winds 20-25 knots (40-50 km/hr) with momentary gust up to 35-45 knots (70-90km/hr) at times.

Mostly cloudy with occasional rain at times. Rough to very rough seas (up to 4-6 meters). A heavy damaging Northwesterly swell (up to 3-4 meters).

THE NIUAS AND VAVA'U:

North to Northwest winds 15-20 knots (30-40 km/hr), rising up to 25-30 knots (50 - 60km/hr) at times.

Mostly cloudy and overcast at times with developing occasional rain, heavy at times that will cause flash flood in low lying areas especially for the Niuas. Moderate to rough seas (up to 3-4 meters). A heavy damaging Northwesterly swell (up to 4 meters). Poor visibility in areas of heavy rain.
