Dr Opeti Pulotu.

Dr Opeti Pulotu was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer for the Tonga National Qualifications and Accreditation Board (TNQAB) effective from 21 February 2020.

The TNQAB Board of Directors made the appointment following approval by the Minister for Education and Training, Hon Siaosi Sovaleni, and Cabinet.

“The recruitment carried out a competitive selection process assessing both local and international candidates,” the Minister stated.

“The interview panel valued Dr Pulotu’s experience as a senior staff of TNQAB and his technical knowledge and recommended him as the most appropriate candidate to lead TNQAB.”

Dr Pulotu, from Toula, Vava‘u, recently completed a PhD in Educational Assessment from Durham University in the United Kingdom. He has been the Principal Qualifications Officer at TNQAB since it was established.

The Ministry of Education stated that the priority for the Board and the task ahead for the new CEO is to ensure the quality assurance of all post-compulsory education and training programmes, as well as technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes.

He will also lead the efforts of the Board for their accredited programmes to be accepted by more international educational systems.

Dr Pulotu replaces Mrs Pauline Moa, Deputy CEO, who was acting CEO of TNQAB for a number of years.
